For years, breast augmentation has been sought after by women of varying shapes, ages and demographics. This procedure provides women with a solution to specific issues that concern them.
Ideal breast enlargement candidates include those who have:
- Breasts that they feel are too small
- Clothing not fitting properly
- Feelings of self-consciousness when wearing a swimsuit or tank top
- Breasts that have lost firmness or became smaller after having children
- Breasts that have changed shape or size after weight loss
- One breast that has a significantly different shape or size than the other
Breast Enlargement Sizing Tips
The first order of business when considering breast implants is to determine the best size and type of breast implant you want.
Working together, you and your plastic surgeon will discuss the desired outcome. Your current body structure, including frame and proportion will be evaluated. Breasts will be assessed for mass, to include existing breast tissue.
Multiple Options Lead to Excellent Results
Today, patients have multiple options that affect the overall breast augmentation experience. Regardless of these options, all breast implants are contained within a shell fabricated from solid silicone rubber.
The two most commonly discussed options are saline and silicone gel breast implant materials used. Gummy bear implants (cohesive silicone gel) have just been approved by the FDA, and they seem to be very promising as being the most natural-feeling breast implants on the market.
Silicone gel breast implants have been used for many years. This type of implant is filled with silicone in the form of a soft, elastic gel. Due to the nature of silicone, these implants come pre-filled and thus will require a slightly larger incision for insertion (a no scar breast augmentation is not possible).
In recent years, saline breast implants have become very popular. This type of implant is filled with sterile salt water and may arrive pre-filled or will be filled at the time of surgery. When saline implants are filled during surgery, there is always the option for a no scar breast augmentation.
Just as there are options for types of breast implants, there are also options when it comes to the location of incisions. Some are made underneath the breast, just at the crease of the chest wall, others are made at the lower edge of the areola, in the armpit, or through the navel (TUBA).
Any of the possible locations for incisions displays little if any scarring, as these areas are inconspicuous. The TUBA and transaxillary (armpit) incisions are considered “no scar” due to the imperceptible marks left after the procedure.
