Now that the summer season is right around the corner, many women want to enhance their natural curves with breast augmentation or breast implants. If you want to return to your everyday life after surgery, it is important that you follow your doctor’s instructions so that you heal quickly.
Rest for the First Couple of Days
For the first couple of days following your surgery, it is vital that you stay in bed and rest. If you feel sore or in pain when you lift your head up and down, you can prop it up with a soft pillow. Stay still for as much as possible and lie on your back.
Take it Slow
Avoid participating in strenuous activities and exercises for at least two to three weeks following your breast surgery. Heavy lifting, quick movements of your arms and even extremely bumpy car rides can rip stitches and open your wounds.
It is natural to feel some soreness for six weeks up to two months after your surgery. But if you are feeling in severe discomfort, it is important to tell your doctor about it.
Take Care of Yourself
Avoid smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages because these can both lead to toxins accumulating in your system and can slow down recovery. Alcohol can also interfere with any antibiotics you are taking.
Change your dressings by your doctor’s instructions. In most cases, you will have to unwrap your dressings every couple of days, clean your wounds with warm water and soap, throw the old dressings in the garbage, and apply new ones gently enough so that you do not constrict your breathing.
Visit the Doctor
You also need to see your doctor regularly. Keep up to date with your follow-up appointments. Sometimes, you will need a drain removed from your breast areas as well as the stitches. If you miss your appointments, you will be putting yourself at risk.
