Breast Implants Do Not Interfere with Nursing

According to Dr. Jeffrey Salomon, who is an assistant clinical professor of plastic surgery at Yale University School of Medicine, implants do not cause any problems for women who would like to nurse their newborn.

Implants are placed in an area that doesn’t interfere with the breast glands or the milk ducts, which is where the milk originates and then comes out of the nipple.

Implants Do Not Cause Sagging of the Breasts

The other concern of breast implants causing breasts to sag following breastfeeding is also invalid, according to a new study. It’s more likely due to pregnancy changing the shape of the breasts causing them to enlarge as the cause for sagging rather than nursing.

This most recent study, led by Dr. Norma Cruz, a plastic surgery professor at the University of Puerto Rico School Of Medicine in San Juan, looked at a group of 120 women who breastfed their newborn. As part of the study, Cruz measured 57 of the women with implants before and after breastfeeding for at least six months. She also measured 62 women who didn’t have implants.

There were two measurements taken: before pregnancy and one year after pregnancy or breastfeeding. From these measurements, Cruz was able to show that breast size increase and breast sag were both due to pregnancy, not breastfeeding.

Does Breast Augmentation Sound Much Better Now?

So if you’re considering a breast augmentation with implants but haven’t made the decision because you’re worried about it keeping you from nursing or that they will cause your breasts to become saggy, don’t be concerned. According to Drs. Solomon and Cruz, breast implants are not the cause of sagging and won’t interfere with your ability to nurse.

Another Option is Natural Breast Augmentation Using Your Own Fat

Breast implants are always an option, but so is fat transfer for natural breast augmentation. We offer fat transfer to women who would like a 100% natural approach to increasing their breast size. We simply remove fat from an area of your body you would like it removed (via liposuction), and then inject it into your breasts over several months.

The procedure results in fuller, larger, completely natural looking breasts. They are made of your very own fat, just as if you they had always been that size.
