The experience of pregnancy is one that, understandably, women approach with their own unique sense of anticipation or sheer dread about the changes their body will go through.
From the time we are very young, we are inundated with images of the “perfect body” that mold our own perceptions of the ideal female figure.
Although I do not recommend plastic surgery anytime soon after childbirth, breast augmentation has shown to be quite effective at helping a mom regain confidence in her figure when the time is right for figure-enhancing surgery.
Although there is an enormous reward at the end of nine months of pregnancy, even the most self-assured woman may be overwhelmed by the changes in her body post-pregnancy.
Where the Pregnancy Weight Comes From
According to the La Leche League, some of the weight gain a woman experiences during pregnancy comes from:
- The placenta
- Amniotic fluids
- The enlarged uterus
- Enlarged breasts
- Extra blood
- Approximately seven pounds of extra fat stores
Most of the weight gain during pregnancy is lost through childbirth and in the weeks following. For instance, extra blood is reabsorbed and eliminated from the body naturally, and the uterus returns to its pre-pregnancy size within about six weeks following childbirth.
It’s that last note that may bring about the most challenge for the new mother. Studies have shown that a woman’s body actually creates more fat cells during the final trimester of pregnancy, an act that was once only thought to occur during infancy and adolescence.
One benefit of breast augmentation surgery is the lifting of the breasts due to a restoration in volume after they may have begun to sag after pregnancy and nursing.
Life Changes after Pregnancy
A new mother experiences not only tremendous physical changes, but indeed, her entire life has changed. This is true regardless of whether she has had her first child or her fourth. With every pregnancy and birth, change occurs in the household, which in turn affects Mom.
In the weeks and sometimes months after giving birth, a new mother may feel the pressure to be over the moon with happiness at all times. She may feel apprehensive to share her body with her husband due to self-consciousness over her newly-shaped figure.
She may compare herself to media images of Hollywood moms who are praised for losing “baby weight” quickly. All of the external factors that weigh heavily on the new mother can really take their toll, possibly leading her to want plastic surgery for moms such as a mommy makeover before the time is right.
To protect her well-being, a new mom can:
- Set realistic goals based on her own body type. Rather than striving for an ideal weight, make a goal for the size of clothing that would be most comfortable.
- Take note of small accomplishments, such as walking for 30 minutes or even getting more rest.
- Track small things like the fit of clothes or endurance or flexibility.
- Remember that weight loss comes gradually and that there will come a time when the body will respond to healthy diet and exercise.
- Plastic surgery for moms may include breast augmentation, liposuction and or a tummy tuck procedure to create beautiful contours that lead to total confidence.
